BRAHMOS
The name Brahmos
is formed by fusing together the names Brahmaputra
river in India and Moskva of Russia.It
is a short range supersonic cruise missile that can be launched from submarine
,ships,aircraft or land.
It is a joint
venture between India and Russia called Brahmos
Aerospace.Russia supplied 65% of the components including its engine and
radar. Its is used by the Indian airforce,navy and army.
The engine is
powered ins two stages by solid rocket booster fuel in the first stage and
liquid based fuel in the second stage.
It has a range of 450 km. The length of the missile is 28 feet and it
weighs in at 2500-3000 kilos .The speed of the missile is Mach 2.8 to 3.0 with thermal guidance.BRAHMOS is
the worlds fastest anti ship cruise missile .
Tests
21 March 2010
BRAHMOS was test fired and struck a free floating ship
piercing it above the water line and and
destroying it completely.
5 September created a world reecord for being the first
cruise missile to be tested in supersonic speeds . BRAHMOS became the only supersonic missile having an
advanced capability of striking a
selected target from among a group of targets,providing the user with a
precision hit.
